Born and raised in the Bronx (NY) DJ Mr. President always had an appreciation for different genres of music. Son of a heroin addict and an abusive, alcoholic, musician for a father, He used music as a means to escape. By his teenage years, he was already working professionally as an MC in New York City performing at clubs he wasn’t even old enough to get in and sharing the stage with top artist in the industry.
DJ Mr. president was inspired by one of my mentors, Mix Master Supreme (internationally known for his travels with The Magnificent Force and music producer of greats like Kurtis Blow). During many practice sessions, Mixmaster Supreme taught him technique and let me “get on” the turntables to practice. Long story short, he went from MC’in to DJ’in!
He grew up in a musical family, which seeded his love for music production; “We Grind Harder” stems from that love of music. We Grind Harder was produced in his Virginia Beach, VA studio and released by Run It Back Records, LLC. Along his journey, he crossed paths with New York City, MC, “Otis Clapp”. They learned quickly they had a mutual respect for each other’s work. Hailing from Queens, New York, Otis Clapp buried himself in music from a young age as a means of escaping an unstable and abusive home life. His passion for hip hop drove him from lunchroom cyphers to sharing stages with heavyweights such as Action Bronson, Diplo, J.Cole, Mac Miller, Ab Soul , Ghostface Killah and more. Otis was also named one of the top “underground” artists of 2011 and 2012 by AllHipHop.com.
“We Grind Harder” is a result of this long-term partnership.
